Forget about whether the District actually has the power to outlaw making your own gun, let’s look at the usual rush by the District government to regulate something before it’s even known to be a problem. 3D printing is revolutionizing manufacturing. So called micro-manufacturing requires so little space that it could bring a whole new industry to DC’s economy. And yet, before it’s even out of the gate, the council wants to rush to restrict it. The District has said repeatedly it wants to be a tech center and yet it continually shoots itself in the foot with entrepreneurs. Attention city council: entrepreneurs do notice the way you handle new technologies. The knee jerk need to regulate, before we even really know what the problem is, is noticed by people looking for a place to start a business.
